The way i see it you want to die anyway so why not just do what you want to do or at least take yourself away from the situation for a year. I would always make jokes about dying or wanting to die. It was easier to joke about it then say that i was struggling.

Please understand that wanting to die and being suicidal are both serious and dangerous but i would suggest they are not the same.
